Airashell

Airashell Cutaway

The Airashell biofiltration system is a proven and cost-effective alternative to chemical scrubbing or carbon adsorption, designed like a biotrickling system yet incorporating many benefits of traditional biofilters.

The shell-based media is sustainable and renewable with the ability to maintain a neutral pH within the biofilter. This ensures optimal performance across a broad range of odor producing compounds while simplifying operation and enhancing system reliability.

Benefit statement

close expand

The benefits of the Airashell are:

  • Ability to treat high levels of H2S
  • Ability to treat high levels of organic sulphides
  • High efficiencies
  • Low running costs
  • Lower footprint than conventional bio filters
  • Low maintenance
  • Sustainable process using naturally occurring media
  • Very high performance on a broad range of compounds
  • Ability to threat highly variable inlet concentrations
  • Offsite or onsite modular construction for ease of installation
  • Value engineered to achieve best Totex (Capex and Opex) solution

Suitable applications

close expand

Airashell is used in a wide range of applications including:

  • Wastewater pumping stations
  • Wastewater inlet works
  • Sludge handling and treatment processes
  • Municipal solid waste treatment and storage facilities
  • Animal by-products processes
  • Industrial effluent treatment
  • Industrial process emissions

How it works

close expand

The Airashell consists of shells coated with a blend of specifically selected micro-organisms. The shells contain a high level of CaCO3, which neutralises acid as it is produced as a result of bacterial oxidation of sulphides. The bacteria are selected for their ability to degrade high levels of H2S. The process is further enhanced by the physical, structural and chemical properties of the media, which allows for smaller filters with high efficiencies and improved elimination capacities.   Anua use oyster shells for odour control Anua use cockell shells for odour control Anua use mussell shells for odour control
